If you proceed with sensitivity, it is possible to combine the old with the new using just a few items, and in so doing, you can continue to tell a coherent and harmonious story. In the Branntweinhäusl, we try to combine the forms used within the property with those of the Salzkammergut region and its rich tradition. Using materials, patterns, and flowers from the garden, we attempt to create a beautifully charming and stylish environment. This is the level of care and attention that goes into creating a perfect home away from home, whether you’re joining us for a summer retreat, or planning a short break at another time of year.

A building with many stories to tell

Today, the Branntweinhäusl is a resort designed with loving attention to detail, offering accommodation within a quiet corner at the heart of the Salzkammergut region. Combining a host of complementary qualities, this spot makes for a holiday where you feel right at home. Situated between St. Wolfgang and Bad Ischl, between the Wolfgangsee and Schwarzensee lakes, and between Schafberg and Leonsberg, this location really does have something for everyone. A summer retreat, some time out in the Salzkammergut region, a holiday, or a short break.

However, the fact that the Branntweinhäusl also has many a story to tell, is also immediately evident as it has been a recognisable part of Rußbach for quite some time. Russbach is a district of St. Wolfgang located directly on the climb leading up to the Schwarzensee lake. The story of this building is coloured by the beauty of the surrounding landscape and the noteworthy past of the Salzkammergut. There are, however, some truly unique anecdotes that really can only be found here, and which reveal a little more of the true character of the building.

For those curious to explore...

Our communal areas are not merely designed so as to imitate a traditional style, but the Branntweinhäusl is truly authentic - through and through. We intend our property to be a place of encounter for ourselves and our guests. Here, everyone is sure to find peace and tranquility, and those who wish to explore will encounter the stories that made this house what it is today. And if anyone asks, we are more than happy to tell them what it is that moves us, where the best pubs in the area can be found, or where the best spot to swim can be found at the Wolfgansee lake and the other Salzkammergut lakes. Although we do not offer a daily hospitality service, our doors are always open to local organisations and guests who have cause to celebrate. This is just the nature of the hospitality and tradition of our guest house.

Rußbach ...is centrally located, serving as a connecting point between many of the highlights of the Salzkammergut. Bike trails and hiking routes set off from right outside the door, the Wolfgangsee lake is just a cycle ride away, Bad Ischl or St. Gilgen can be quickly reached by car or bus, and a visit to Hallstatt, Aussee, Salzburg or Gmunden will only take you 30 to 45 minutes. At the same time, the Branntweinhäusl is and will remain a haven of tranquility at the centre of a bustling region. Come home and find your centre.
